I agree with your point that saying something is focused on the internet doesn't make it so, but saying it's "just a shrinkwrapped box full of empty space and arranged electrons" is reductionism. In that case so are these postings, Linux, our minds. There's such a thing as information content, and you can argue to what degree MS products contain that.

Windows 2000 - Native http: and xml parsers, ldap directory CIFS and NFS, RFC Kerberos and x.509 certs, ASP and ISAPI

SQL, Biztalk, ISA and others to follow this season.

Software is was provides computing machines with value. Otherwise they are just inanimate objects. Sun would be nowhere with it's aging line of hardware technology if it were not for Solaris.
