Don Greene,
The alliance has nothing to do with the DRAM controllers. My message that you responded to specifically was talking about the DRAM controllers. During the last CC, rambus did mention that the Toshiba and Hitachi agreements are for 5 years. That includes all DRAM and DRAM controllers they will make. The NEC/Hitachi alliance will not be making controllers. Nec and Hitachi by themselves will. So they will continue paying royalties to Rambus for many years to come. The new company will have to negotiate on it's own for licenses, patents and royalties, and that includes not only SDRAM and DDR, but RDRAM as well since they will be starting with no licenses what so ever. Cause after all, it's a brand new company (that does not yet even exists I might add). I don't think that's so hard to understand.
