Hey LT,
Quantum/Maxtor? Unless Quantum is having serious problems with MKE, it'll never happen.....
'course, if they are having a falling out.... HDD has to find efficient manufacturing capacity.... fast
From 10-q
<<Because HDDG depends on MKE for the manufacture of all hard disk drives, adverse material developments in this critical manufacturing relationship would adversely affect HDDG's operating results <EDIT>
..... Capital Commitment. HDDG's future growth will require that MKE continue to devote substantial financial resources to property, plant and equipment to support the manufacture of HDDG's products.

. Manufacturing Capacity. If MKE is unable or unwilling to meet HDDG's manufacturing requirements, an alternative manufacturing source may not be available in the near term.>>

Hells bells we've been pleading for consolidation for centuries now (seems like).

There are some decent folks over on the Maxtor and other Yahoo boards but I prefer my cheerleaders in short dresses <g>.

Paul.... grazing in greener pastures but still fascinated

<<. Now all the action regarding the Quantum/Maxtor merger/acquistion activities is happening over on those (ugh) Yahoo threads.
>>
Haven't seen any basis for the talk and assumed it was mindless, hopeful speculation. Did I miss something?
Stitch, Did you pull the trigger on Komag? -Z

<<Gee - what has happened to the excitement on this thread?>>

The quality on this thread is still very evident and obvious. I think what has happened though is a general decline of all of the threads on SI. Take a look at the Intel thread recently. Most of the conversation there is centered on the price of oil and politics (all of which are important to investors but not so relevant to the central theme of the thread.)

Anyway, I will continue to browse here because of the quality of posts -- I could wish there were more posts, but then alas....
