I agree with your assessment of the problems, I don't agree with your assessment of the solution.

I haven't offered any solutions, and I'm certainly interested in hearing others ideas.

Public transportation in California was sabotaged by the automotive and oil industries. There is much more money to be made by keeping people off busses and trains.

I don't think that privatization will work.

Great minds have managed to go from 33 MHz to 1 GHz+ chips in about 5 years. It would seem that if you funneled the same talent into transporting people, by "public transportation", with less energy use, you could probably make great progress.

Your point is well taken, but the 386 33MHz appeared in 1989, and 1GHz appeared 11 years later.
