Hi Civ, This is a quote from the book I was telling you about.

"Once we have a full picture of all that Scripture has to say about the love of God, all the different strands of truth will make a rich tapestry. Some things may not seem to make sense until we step back and look at the finished work. But when we see the big picture, it is breath- taking.

These two aspects of God's love— His universal love for all humanity, and His particular love for the elect — must not be confounded. To affirm that God loves the elect with a saving love is not to suggest that He has no love whatsoever for the rest of humanity. And to acknowledge that God genuinely loves even those whom He does not save is not to impute any kind of feebleness to God. In the end, none of His purposes are thwarted, and every aspect of His love perfectly declares His glory." (MacArthur, LOVE OF GOD pg-95)

Of course what we are talking about here is limited atonement the L in the famous T.U.L.I.P. I don't pretend that the reformed position is the only position but I think it's the one that fits best with Scripture. I fully expect to hear howls of outrage but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Here is a good article by James white, have a read and tell me what you think.

ciVic, I, basically, agree with the scripture that you posted from John 3:16. My personal opinion, is that Jesus died on the cross to open the door for forgiveness to all of the world, but that to avail oneself of this salvation, a person had to accept Jesus Christ and his Lord and Savior. Only through Jesus Christ may one enter the gates of God's Kingdom. The words of the Bible concerning this, appear to be quite simple, and straight forward, IMO.

Thank you for posting the amplified version, which is a great help in understanding all of the possible translations.
