Paul,

In big iron, chip speed means much less than in desktop computers.

Just look at how IBM's POWER2 destroys the competition at equal clock speed.

Itanium will be crippled by the EPIC architecture.

Still, the delay of US III should give Intel a nice window of opportunity.

If "as fast as" were enough to displace the leader in a segment, AMD would long ago have pushed into Intel's corporate market. Even a 10% speed advantage hasn't been enough for them, so far.

And switching to AMD requires no software changes.

Intel will have to do much better than "as fast as" to make progress against SUN.
