GVTucker,

On DRAM memory, the numbers are very similar as to the ones I posted. 1% for SDRAM, 2% for RDRAM and 3% for DDR.

However, even before SDRAM and DDR came into the picture, Rambus had said in public and in a number of occasions that RDRAM controller royalties are in the 4-5% range. Since DDR is more than RDRAM and SDRAM is less than RDRAM, 3-4% for SDRAM and 5-6% for DDR are the logical numbers and mesh with the numbers that Rambus has said during their CCs. So I think Edelstone's numbers for controllers are 1% off.

GV,

Mark Edelstone released a report yesterday afternoon that had his guess as to the royalty number.
Although neither company has disclosed details, we believe that NEC's SDRAM royalty rate is slightly less than 1.0%, while DDR rates are likely 2.0-3.0%. We believe SDRAM and DDR SDRAM controller IC royalty rates for NEC are around 2-3% and 4-5% respectively.

I think Edelstone got his information from Sylvester on the Rambus thread.
