Stitch,
<<unannounced developments I believe Komag has underway in other markets...>>
Yeah, yeah yet another photonics play. Meanwhile, GLW announces it is about to be a genomics/photonics play. They are leveraging their experience in glass cookware to enter the hot genomics area (and maybe get an even higher multiple).
Seems like anyone with any experience in putting a thin film down is making a hot market announcement.

I guess you can't blame them but are they looking for a market cap pop or do they really think they have the expertise to enter the market efficiently and profitably?

I don't know why this burns my butt but it smells like a market frenzy top when all you hear is "Me Too".

Paul

Hi Stitch, (you here for Diskcon?), et al....

This time gang, don't be so quick to dismiss the "merger" between Quantum and Maxtor. It appears the issues with MKE have been worked out.

Now the fly in the ointment for the deal and for that matter the entire HDD industry is the TDK "stinky water" problems.

Be prepared for industry allocation in the December quarter along with higher pricing - - finally! I believe the industry is slowly turning the corner.

Now with that said...maybe we can kick the level of dialog up a bit.

Regards,
LT
