I believe you are right about VIAD getting a closer look by some investors. As news articles are released about PLUM they will mention the successes of VIAD for comparison purposes.

Aren't you the only person questioning VIAD's capitalization of R&D? There are situations where R&D can be legitimately capitalized.

News today doesn't come as any surprise. As I suggested might happen (back on Sept. 19th), the CFO has resigned. If I was correct that the market was unhappy about the capitalization of R&D, the stock will probably open lower Monday but finish higher. The question in my mind is what they will do with the R&D on the books. If they restate earnings the stock will tank and we'll have a spate of lawsuits. Since it is technically justifiable I don't think they need to do this. Instead they can just amortize the stuff already on the books over two years according to their plan but not put more on, or they can do a year end adjustment to write it off.

Also I note that Stan stepped out of the way to let a manager take charge. Few people can function as both an entrepreneur and manager and thus most entrepreneurs eventually step aside. Kudos to Stan for doing it early before it became a hindrance to their growth. I doubt this move will affect the stock either way.
