Your understanding is flawed. In a two-station IEEE802.3
network, say from a L2 switch and an end-station, there is
no need for "half-duplex", ie. collision-detect, and both stations can run "full-duplex". Neither station has to share the wire as one stations Tx goes into the others Rx, and vice-versa
