Based upon the action in WFR, I'd say it's *extemely* unlikely that there is a serious wafer shortage. The stock of MEMC would reflect it if one existed.

For years I wondered why our stock always managed to "know" everything before even the employees knew. Then I found out why: our CEO discloses our bookings and billings on a weekly basis to the ANALysts! No wonder there's no such thing as a surprise. Then the only question for the funds is whether they buy the news because they expect more good news, or sell it because the present quarter is looking less favorable.

FYI, wafers are differentiated according to crystal orientation (I believe there are two in common use), size (300mm, 200mm, 150mm), and dopants, not the metal system they are used with. I'm not that deep into the physics; I just design the circuits that go on them.
