You have twisted my analogy of strict constitutionalists and fundamentalist Christians. The Constitution indeed is a "contract with America." However, it is constantly a "work in progress." (What's difficult to understand about that statement? Courts rule every day on numerous constitutional questions.) On a larger scale, the Second Amendment is being subjected to reinterpretation today in view of children going into schools and slaughtering other children, and cities such as Chicago taking on gun manufacturers in the same manner as states took on cigarette manufacturers. Re: "Do you mean that contracts are to be changed from time to time w/o bothering to amend them in a formal way?" In the case of the U.S. Constitution, it is continuously being amended ... daily ... not just "from time to time."
