HTSF alert! Long awaited strategic product is being released as a test version:

Goin' on a Porn-Free Safari

Sep. 18, 2000 (PCWorld via COMTEX) -- Even the most Web-savvy parents worry how
to keep kids safe on their safaris across the Internet badlands. How do you make
pretty darn sure perverts aren't lurking in the tall grass? (Of course, they
are; it's the Internet.)

The answer from one educational software maker is to build the filtering
software into its new Web browser--and to give it a safari motif that, it hopes,
will appeal to your ruggies.

Heartsoft (http://www.heartsoft.com) is offering a prerelease version of its new
Internet Safari browser for free download during the week of September 18.

The company expects to update its test-drive software, but it has not set a
release date for the final version. Except for the configuration files, the
final test-drive version will be the release version. A single-user copy will
cost $29.95, a lab pack $139.95, and a site license $459.95.

However, Internet Safari has been programmed to update dynamically as you log
off. So as the company makes additional refinements, you'll automatically get
updates to your prerelease copy of the browser. Early adopters might end up with
most of the program without paying a fee.

Content Is King

Internet Safari's jungle motif is designed to make the Internet good, clean fun.
Also, Heartsoft has frontloaded its favorites pages at the top kid Web sites
around the world. The developer has partnered with content providers such as Ask
Jeeves and Microsoft Encarta to give kids access to search engines,
encyclopedias, and more.

The Weather Channel is providing forecasts and related information. Free e-mail
is offered courtesy of Gaggle, although that site's chat capability is not built
into the browser at this time--something that's a relief for most parents.

Besides the readymade links, kids can use Internet Safari's Go To button to type
in any Web address. The porn checker kicks in wherever they decide to go.

The porn blocker isn't just your run-of-the-mill list of censored sites. It uses
proprietary image detection and analysis software that reviews graphic images in
.jpeg and .gif formats. The program compares the data against mathematical
algorithms of the human body. Images that closely match the algorithm are
blocked and not visible through the Internet Safari browser.

Porn-Blocking Promise

Heartsoft is so optimistic about this new technology that it has created a
subsidiary, Plug-Inventions Technologies, to develop and market more
applications using the technologies.

"Our proprietary pornography-detection technology, which was originally
developed as a component of the AI-based Internet security software contained
within Internet Safari, has shown great promise in opening up new markets which
we originally had not conceived," says Benjamin Shell, Heartsoft chair and chief
executive officer.

Heartsoft has long been a provider of educational titles such as Thinkology and
The Heartsoft Bestsellers to schools. Internet Safari represents its first foray
into home PCs.
