Hello there
I have been reading from Dawn to Decadence- if you haven't read it yet you might enjoy it. The first chapter deals with the revolution of religion from the 15c onward- as the Christian faith became splintered by Luther (well not entirely by Luther- the book gives a panoply of examples for why all the schisms happened).

I found the bits about Erasmus particularly interesting- and I am going to read the book on Erasmus that was recommended in the text.

What I found fascinating was that there were people going on record against the punishing of heretics even in the 15c. There were moderates even then. And some of them survived, to old age, and to die a natural death- not many of course.

It's a fascinating read, it really is. I'm not sure I agree with him that we are in decadence. But I enjoy the history and the lovely writing, even if I don't agree entirely with his thesis.

(btw- I thought of the book because of your use of the word folly- Erasmus has written a piece in which Folly personified discusses her relationship with humans)
