So...high taxes lead to economic prosperity?

The status quo in most of Europe is high taxes. Reducing them should be beneficial but it has to be done gradually. The European gov'ts don't want to risk the entitlements which the public has come to rely on that would be an incredible shock to the system.

Reduced tax revenues could never lead to reduced government expenditures? Governments, not individuals, are the driving force behind economic prosperity?

You're reading too much into what I wrote. I certainly don't believe high taxes are good or that the gov't drives economic prosperity or depression. Yes, individuals are part of what drives economic prosperity, but they are also guilty of driving the excesses which inevitably lead to economic contraction.
