After the civil war a group of former Confederates moved to south Texas and formed The Republic of the Rio Grande at the current site of Laredo. They build government offices and designed a flag, but about a decade later the U.S. government send a detachment of calvary. The government and much of it's people crossed the River and reestablished the Republic at the present site of Nuevo Laredo Mexico. The Mexican army send troops and built a fort and the Republic of the Rio Grande ceased to be, but to this day there are 7 flags over Texas in that city.
