I don't understand it either, rudedog, but I expect Sun's management have done their homework and have a reason or reasons for proceeding. The reason(s) might not be obvious to us on the outside -- could be a combination of people, patents, particular technology, market position or perception, or whatever -- but I'm in no position to second-guess them.

It does suggest to me a somewhat agnostic (and seldom seen) attitude towards choice of processor, at least on the low end, which might be of interest for the future.
