<After a decrease in vendors last week the number of vendors selling [1 GHz PIII's] nearly doubled this week>

I walked into Fry's to check what's available. Many of the Compaq Athlon machines had red stickers on them, indicating they are closeouts. The single 1 GHz Athlon was in this category and the salesman said they are none on order.

In general the aisles in the computer section had lots of empty spaces.

There was also only one GHz PIII on display. I asked him to check stock and there were 11 in stock at that store and I saw similar numbers at about 10 other Fry's stores on the screen.

I'm concerned that Compaq may have dropped AMD or AMD above 900 MHz in order to get first dibs on the P4's. OTOH, maybe Compaq is in the midst of a model changeover. I also noticed that a 900 MHz Athlon machine was featured in Fry's ads for the past week.
