With 256 Mbit technology (not counting ECC), and with a limit of 32 RDRAM devices per channel, you get 1 GB of RDRAM per channel. If the Dell workstation can achieve a max memory capacity of 4 GB, that means there are four RDRAM channels in the system. Since 840 only has two RDRAM channels coming out of the memory controller, there must be repeaters in order to turn two channels into four.
