(COMTEX) B: Intelect Wins $1 Million Contract for Optical Networking
B: Intelect Wins $1 Million Contract for Optical Networking Equipment In
Singapore OmniLYNX Selected as Backbone Platform for New Light-Rail System in
Singapore

RICHARDSON, Texas, Sep 20, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Intelect
Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ICOM), a leader in intelligent optical networking
solutions, today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Intelect Network
Technologies, has received a contract from Singapore Technologies Electronics
Limited to supply Intelect's OmniLYNX products for the Sengkang Transit
Authority's new light-rail system in Singapore. The value of the contract,
including options, is more than $1 million.

The Senkang Light-Rail project will incorporate OmniLYNX networking equipment to
provide an STM-1, or OC-3, optical networking backbone for broadband services.
The new light-rail system will provide transit services, including voice and
data communications, to customers in both Sengkang and Punggol in Singapore.

"Intelect's equipment provides the bandwidth, flexibility and level of service
required to enable customers to bundle services in a single device," says Bill
Barnett, president of Intelect Network Technologies. "OmniLYNX is ideal for both
public and private networks because it provides a wide variety of protocols in a
single platform. In this case, for the Sengkang Transit Authority the OL-300
system will provide the smallest footprint with the largest number of services
available from any comparable system. As a result, Singapore Technologies can
offer more services faster and more efficiently while reducing cost for the
Light Rail Transit Authority."

OmniLYNX allows for guaranteed quality of service (QOS) on critical voice
traffic and provides flexibility in bandwidth allocation permitting IP-based
permanent virtual circuits (PVC) to easily be implemented without interfering
with that traffic. With an installed customer base of more than 4000 nodes
deployed for customers networks worldwide, Intelect's OmniLYNX product family
supports a wide array of data interfaces, allowing diverse types of systems to
be easily integrated into one network. This revolutionary access platform is
designed to allow virtually any type of voice, data or video service to be
delivered from one piece of equipment. Enhanced by support for voice and video
communications in the same network, OmniLYNX products provide a single, more
manageable system for traffic flow information control.

The advantage OmniLYNX provides for the Sengkang Transit Authority includes a
single network management system (NMS) that is flexible and easily handled with
no external system equipment requirements. It also allows the Sengkang Transit
Authority to offer a superior solution to the traditional network platforms and
remain responsive to its customers' present and future needs both efficiently
and economically.
