I'd agree with you, except that Sun has its sights on the set-top box market, and that's a really low-price platform. OK, so they may not take their latest and greatest US-III chip and redo the Cobalt on that, but I'd expect them to move to SPARC as the next logical step.

They've built the company around the success of SPARC, and the only thing they'd consider as an alternative would be MAJC. Well, now there's a thought. MAJC/Cobalt? That would be a harder step than to Solaris/Sparc, but would fit with their long-term plans for MAJC.
