JC - one of the benefits of an "appliance" is the ability to change what's inside - it's a black box.

But I believe that Sun could get a premium for a SPARC based Solaris appliance even though users would not ever see the guts.

They could also take SPARCII chips from the low end of the speed curve - those are essentially "free" since Sun pays for them but can not use them in standard product. They would still need a chipset suitable for an appliance.
