Don't forget SBC owns 10% of Williams

Williams is a back door to SBC traffic. They'll need lots of capacity for both IP and legacy(TDM) stuff (sounds like CW).

SBC's capital expenditures were up 10% YtY in 1st Q 2000.
Major focus is on local broadband access including $6 Billion project Pronto. Williams will hopefully need lots of CW

SBC and Williams have been very cozy from the start of WCG. SBC uses Williams for all long distance traffic and Williams is quickly becoming a key link to SBC's substantial international partners.

The announcement today is one example of several agreements resulting from the alliance, including: transition of SBC's wireless affiliates traffic onto Williams' network; Williams acquisition of Ameritech network assets from SBC; and Williams purchase of SBC's capacity on the China/U.S. and Japan/U.S. Trans-Pacific cables. Earlier this month, the two companies announced an agreement for Williams to provide transport services in six cities and colocation space in three cities in support of SBC's local market initiative
