These new programs - QuickStart DSL, WorkDSL and DSL Interoperability Testing - are intended to increase the availability of low-cost, end-to-end DSL solutions. By helping to make DSL service more readily available, Nortel Networks is enabling a new, high-performance Local Internet. Current demand for DSL service surpasses availability, with customers in some markets having to wait months to obtain high-speed Internet access. This demand is expected to grow at triple-digit levels in North America through 2003, according to the Gartner Group, a leading industry research firm. ``Nortel Networks DSL programs are a good model for addressing the challenges that face service providers offering competitive high-speed Internet access services,'' said Frank Marum, an analyst with Gartner Group. ``More than merely provisioning and rapid deployment, QuickStart DSL provides technical and marketing support services that free up carrier resources to concentrate on meeting the needs of their customers.'' ``Our DSL programs are intended to enable emerging service providers to deliver the high-performance Local Internet to customers rapidly and cost- effectively,'' said Tim Waters, vice-president, business development, Nortel Networks. ``Our expanded DSL services are designed to provide users with the enhanced performance and functionality required to take full advantage of new innovations the Local Internet has to offer both personally and professionally.'' QuickStart DSL is designed to deliver end-to-end DSL network solutions to Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) and Emerging Service Providers (ESPs), allowing them to quickly and competitively deliver high-speed access services with the scalability to provision new customers and deliver new services to anyone, anywhere. QuickStart DSL takes advantage of the full Nortel Networks portfolio, including Nortel Networks Universal Edge Intelligent Multiservice Access System, Nortel Networks Passport Multiservice Switch, Nortel Networks Shasta 5000 Broadband Service Node, Nortel Networks Preside network and service management, and comprehensive professional services including co-location planning and network operations center support. WorkDSL allows business users to purchase low-cost, user-installable DSL modems for telecommuting, Internet access and secure corporate virtual private network (VPN) access at broadband speeds. WorkDSL offers 'plug-and-play' capability to ease deployment and reduce cost for both end users and service providers. Nortel Networks DSL Interoperability Testing verifies compatibility between Nortel Networks DSL access products and third-party customer premises equipment (CPE). This can help to enable ubiquitous deployment of DSL services while giving service providers a variety of choices for CPE...
