Rex Diamond Mining Corporation is pleased to announce the discovery of a new
kimberlite in its 100% owned permit to the east of Tenoumer in Mauritania.
Rex has 90,000km² of 100%-owned exploration permits on the core of the
Archean Craton and a further 13,426km² held in joined venture with De Beers.

As a result of the summer exploration programme conducted within our various
permit areas in Mauritania, Rex is pleased to announce the discovery of a
new kimberlite body. The kimberlite was located by dedicated pitting and
soil sampling efforts, as the body itself has only a weak magnetic
signature. Kimberlite outcrops are visible over a length of at least 300m.
Several kimberlite samples of 50kg - 100kg each are being taken and will be
analysed for their micro- diamond content. The discovery of this latest
kimberlite body has resulted in the recognition of further potential
kimberlite targets. The company's drill rig is now being positioned in the
area.

In the Akchar permit, our joint venture partner De Beers has begun
exploration work in the form of an aeromagnetic survey. Recently, De Beers
acquired the 3,426km² that was relinquished by Rex, when the permit holdings
were revised in accordance with the new Mauritanian mining code. As agreed
under the joint venture, the 3,426km² have now been included in the Akchar
joint venture, making the total area held by the joint venture partners,
13,426km². Under the terms of the agreement, De Beers is obliged to spend
US$24m over 5 years or produce a bankable feasibility study, in order to
acquire a 60% interest.

In addition to the above, Rex Diamond Mining Corporation is pleased to
announce preliminary results from exploratory drilling conducted in its
100%-owned metal exploration permits in Mauritania. In February 2000, while
exploring for kimberlites, Rex identified two gossans, with anomalous metal
concentration in soil samples. During the summer months of 2000, a core
drilling programme was conducted to determine the nature of mineralisation
of the two gossans at depth. The first batch of results has now been
received for platinum and palladium only, and shows a concentration of more
than 1g/tonne over 18m thickness for the first portion of the drill core. We
are now awaiting the full results of the core analysis for both the other
metals (PGMs, precious and base metals) and the remaining core samples. The
full results of these drillings are expected in the coming weeks.
