It says a great deal about Luther. Apparently he was tortured by guilt for much of his life- celibacy was not easy for him- hence his ideas about monks not needing to be celibate! How handy! He sounds like he might also have been either a manic depressive, or just depressed- out of a deep 7 year depression came his "relevation" of the changes for the church.

He was a sad man. He must have lived a sad and unhappy life.
