We all know that it's blatantly hypocritical, yet Gore does it with impunity, regardless of the impression he is leaving... Sure Bush/Cheney have big backers among the energy companies... After the incredible bear market the oil sector has endured over the past 15 years, and the fact that the US has done LITTLE TO NOTHING to reduce dependency on foreign supplies, I'd like to think we'll see someone in the office with a common sensical energy policy... Oil is only part of the problem though. What really is the issue is insufficient refining capacity.. Even if OPEC pumps more oil, it can't be refined quickly enough because the bureaucracy has made it damn near impossible for refineries to be built ANYWHERE. As for campaign finance reform.. I completely agree... But it has to be done in such a way that incumbents are not provided such an opportunity by virture of their office and access to govt resources, that challengers are unable to gain the face time in the media... The key question is where we draw the line in implementing "free and fair access" laws as part of the FCC regulations.. I think we should have free air time available for election ads and debates.. But that ad time represents BIG MONEY for the media... These guys are raising money solely for the purpose of turning around and funneling it into the pockets of the networks. Btw, I was a McCain supporter as well... I actually several opportunities to personally meet him back in the late '80s, early '90s... and I was quite impressed with his attitude and character. Campaign Finance Reform is a truly bi-partisan issue that we all can agree on.. Politicians hate having to spend time constantly trying to raise money, just as much as we despise their engaging in it... But I trust Bush to do more on the issue than I would Gore... He'll play lipservice on the issue and demagogue it as he does any other reforms. Regards, Ron
