What was it like in Vancouver 20 years ago? -Well, caucasians were in the majority - which is neither good, nor bad, just a fact. -There were no visible "gangs" - as in criminal types. -Starbucks did not exist. Good espresso was found in little Italian coffee shops on Commerical Drive. -The Grouse Grind was an actual 30 degree trail up Grouse Mountain. Now it's a mile and a half stairway meeting place alternative for like-minded singles. -Salmon abounded in the Straight of Georgia. -Killer whales flourished. Last month a dead killer whale washed up on a lower mainland beach. It was so full of toxins that environmentalists objected to the authorities plan to sink the carcass in the Harbour as food for crab. -The air was smog free. -Traffic was not an issue. - Liquor was not served on Sunday. We all had to flock to Point Roberts, WA which lucky for us, was and still is only 5km from our house. -The Canadian dollar was worth a LOT more. -And I was 38 and had dark brown hair!
