Well, the announcement we've been waiting for: SDLT ships to ADIC, ATL, OVRL, STK, and CPQ, among others. Those are the big guys for libraries, though I wouldn't have minded if SUNW and IBM had also been in there. So they are shipping the 11mb drive first. I sure hope that the last 9 months have gotten all of the kinks out of them!

I also hope that a lot of Snap units will ship with backup drives attached. That could drive a lot of sales in the ripeness of time. It would, I suspect, be worth it for them to bundle them together, giving a discount on the drives in order to get the media business down the road.

We'll have to see.
Best wishes,
Sam

Quantum Continues the DLTtape Legacy by Shipping Super DLTtape to Industry Leading Automated Tape Library Companies

MILPITAS, Calif., Sep 26, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Quantum Corporation's DLT & Storage Systems Group
(NYSE: DSS chart, msgs), the leader in tape storage technology, today announced it has begun shipments of its
next-generation Super DLTtape(TM) drives to leading automated tape library partners. Based upon the industry's leading
and proven DLTtape(TM) technology platform, Super DLTtape delivers improved performance and reliability that
customers can depend upon to exceed their demanding data storage protection and archiving needs. Advanced Digital
Information Corporation (NASDAQ: ADIC chart, msgs), Overland Data, Inc., (NASDAQ: OVRL chart, msgs),
Quantum|ATL, a unit of Quantum's DLT and Storage Systems Group (NYSE: DSS chart, msgs) and StorageTek
(NYSE: STK chart, msgs), technology leaders in data storage and backup products, are among the first library automation
suppliers to receive Super DLTtape drives for their award-winning automation products lines.

"Overland has been directly involved from the start of testing of Super DLTtape technology," said Steve Richardson,
vice president of marketing at Overland. "We have witnessed the high capacity, reliability and compatibility of Super
DLTtape that our customers are demanding. We are committed to combining this breakthrough technology with our
award-winning line of automated libraries to deliver to our customers what we believe will be the industry's most
dependable solution."

"Today's data-driven economy has created the necessity for a new set of innovative data storage and protection solutions
with breakthrough levels of performance, capacity and reliability," said Bill Britts, ADIC executive vice president of sales
and marketing. "The collaboration that is making Quantum's Super DLTtape technology available in a full range of
ADIC automated tape libraries is providing our customers with exactly the kinds of next-generation technology they
need to keep ahead of the data explosion."

"As data storage demands continue to skyrocket, high performance, increased capacity and rock-solid reliability are the
hallmarks of what our customers expect from us and the DLTtape platform," said Gary Brenkman, director, product
marketing, Quantum|ATL. "The combination of Super DLTtape and our broad range of high-performance libraries offer
an unparalleled enterprise solution that delivers upon the high expectations of our customers."

StorageTek vice president and general manager, client server tape and disk Nelson Diaz explains, "StorageTek's strong
position in the enterprise library market clearly will be enhanced by the advent of Super DLTtape. This technology
provides a remarkable improvement in speed and capacity, supporting the proven reliability and scalability of
StorageTek's tape automation solutions, including our current TimberWolf(R) as well as our new L-series library
systems."

"The tape storage industry has eagerly anticipated Quantum's shipping its first-generation Super DLTtape units," said
Robert Abraham, president of Freeman Reports. "It is very significant that this major milestone is achieved with support
from the leading system and automated tape library companies, including ADIC, ATL, Overland Data and StorageTek."

In addition, Compaq Computer Corporation, a worldwide leader in storage solutions and a Quantum OEM business
partner, has received Super DLTtape units destined for key Compaq customers as part of Quantum's Customer
Engagement Program (CEP) - an initiative that involves OEM and library partners in the product development cycle
from concept to delivery. This successful program is dedicated toward enabling Quantum to continue offering the
industry's highest quality storage solutions in the industry.

"We are very pleased to participate in Quantum's Customer Engagement Program as the first company to begin
integrating breakthrough Super DLTtape technology into our server and StorageWorks solutions," said Rusty Smith,
director, Data Products Business Unit, Compaq Computer Corporation. "Based upon a proven technology known for
high performance and reliability, Super DLTtape along with Compaq's superior automation technology and Enterprise
Backup Solution will enable Compaq to provide its customers with industry leading backup solutions from the desktop
to the datacenter."

The customer engagement program identifies and addresses the specific needs of customers enabling Quantum to offer
highly integrated storage solutions to its customers starting with the first drive shipped.

Following the first shipment of Super DLTtape drives, which has drive capacity of 110 GB and a transfer rate of 11
MB/sec., Quantum will continue to set the industry and global standard for tape storage by developing a family of Super
DLTtape products. The multi-range offering of Super DLTtape technology provides capacity and transfer rates
appropriate for workgroup, mid-range and enterprise business needs. For workgroup and departmental servers, the
Super DLTtape drive will deliver a capacity of 80 GB and a transfer rate of 8 MB/sec. The mid-range market, including
large corporate departments and mid-size automated libraries, will see the first Super DLTtape shipments with a drive
capacity of 110 GB and transfer rate of 11 MB/sec. In response to high-performance enterprise needs, Quantum will also
offer a Super DLTtape drive with a transfer rate of greater than 16 MB/sec. (All of the specifications stated are in
native/uncompressed mode.) Super DLTtape extends Quantum's industry-leading DLTtape data storage platform that
has an installed base of more than 1.5 million drives and greater than 50 million DLTtape cartridges shipped to date.

"As leaders in the tape storage industry and providers of a proven technology, we are pleased to offer Super DLTtape
technology - a next-generation product that is designed to deliver significant advances over previous DLTtape drives in
terms of capacity and performance, while continuing to maintain unsurpassed reliability," said William Boles, vice
president, marketing for Quantum DLTtape. "The overwhelming support and collaboration that Quantum is receiving
from leading library automation vendors and OEM partners further strengthens Super DLTtape as the tape backup of
choice for mid-range systems."

Super DLTtape technology offers backward-read compatibility with the existing DLTtape product family and
Benchmark DLT1. Like previous generations of DLTtape drives, Super DLTtape is expected to support all major
systems and platforms, including UNIX, Linux, Netware, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Mac OS. As with the
current DLTtape product line, Super DLTtape drives are widely supported by all major independent software vendors
(ISVs).
