Petz,

< given the VIA KT-266 news, I wonder if that 1.8 GHz Sys Cold Fusion machine being released next quarter is actually using KT-266 rather than 760.>

It's 1.6GHz Sys Cold Fusion system - not 1.8GHz. You are right - with KT-266 news, it's now hard to tell which chipset they are going with.

<Was Sharky the only source of "no VIA 'til 2001" FUD.>

I'm not sure, but I remember Sharky's speculation about KT-266 caused some concern on this board.

<Will the KM133 with integrated video arrive before 2001 also?>

I couldn't find any info on KM133 at VIA's site. Based on their track record on previous Athlon chipsets, I believe KM133 won't be available in volume until Q1'2000 if the chip is sampling now.

Petz, I don't think VIA KT-266 production will start in 2000. Semibiznews meant probably that it is available in samples right now (even that is unlikely because VIA didn't show any working prototype boards at the VIA Technology Forum). Judging from VIAs track record and the fact that ALI and AMD are sampling for weeks now I don't think we will see VIA Athlon DDR boards soon. Apollo Pro 266 boards (Pentium III) are another story of course.

I expect the following DDR roadmap:

October/November: First AMD 760 boards
December: ALI DDR boards
December/January: VIA Apollo Pro 266 boards
January/February: VIA KT-266 boards

Petz,

...I wonder if that 1.8 GHz Sys Cold Fusion machine being released next quarter is actually using KT-266 rather than 760.

I wonder whether the introduction delay is due to the chipset (which ever it might use), the 1.2GHz introduction, or something else.

If the spec announcement for the 1.6 GHz isn't changed to show the use of the KT-266 after its announcement today, it probably suggests that it uses the 760 which would still be under NDA.

After looking at old versions of that PC Watch-published, AMD roadmap, I noticed that the 1.2 GHZ Tbird is now shown to be introduced several months earlier than was expected in July. This schedule acceleration makes it seem less likely that the 1.6 GHz Cold Fusion delay was due to the CPU.
