Yes, if they are in a reversible coma. Only flatliners are determined to be brain dead. Murder has nothing to do with self- conception. It has to do with the existence of a human being. If someone is asleep, can I kill him? Can I kill the mentally deficient? Are you in favor of infanticide? (After all, if distinguishing at birth is merely a matter of convenience, and it takes so long for "self- awareness", we may as well draw the line at 6 months or later, give everyone a final chance at "buyer's remorse"). Do you think we should kill those with multiple personality disorder (they do not have a stable sense of self)? Sheesh........
