Legerity Announces New Chipset Solutions for Voice Over Broadband BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 2000-- Legerity, Inc., a leading global provider of semiconductor solutions for the communications industry, today introduced the newest members of its Intelligent Access(TM) solutions family designed to reduce the cost and complexity of voice over broadband applications.
These next-generation semiconductor solutions include the Dual Intelligent Subscriber Line Audio-processing Circuit (ISLAC(TM)) and Intelligent Subscriber Line Interface Circuit (ISLIC(TM)) advanced linecard chips.
Legerity's new Dual ISLAC/ISLIC family consists of two high-density, feature-rich chipset solutions. The Am79D2250/Am79R240 chipset is optimized for a wide range of consumer-oriented short-loop applications, such as smart residential gateways, integrated access devices (IADs), voice over DSL (VoDSL), cable telephony, wireless local loop, and other on-premise equipment. The Am79D2251/Am79R241 chipset is designed to meet the stringent requirements of traditional communications infrastructure equipment.
``Legerity's new Intelligent Access solutions are focused on addressing the infrastructure needs of the rapidly growing broadband communications market,'' said Daryl White, president and CFO of Legerity. ``Designed specifically for VoDSL, VoIP, IADs, and other remote applications, these chipsets offer innovative features, such as integrated line test and diagnostic capabilities, that enable reduced cost of ownership for communication service providers.''
White continued, ``The Dual ISLAC/ISLIC chipsets represent a powerful extension to our Intelligent Access family, which also includes four-channel ISLAC devices and a broad range of ISLICs. With each of our next-generation chipset solutions, Legerity is helping to break down the barriers that prevent widespread, global availability of high-speed data and voice communications.''
Legerity's Dual ISLAC/ISLIC chipsets implement a two-channel universal telephone line interface with integrated ringing support, integrated line test and diagnostic capabilities, modem tone detection and ADPCM voice encoding -- features that are ideal for voice over broadband applications. This high level of integration reduces cost per line by integrating many functions that would otherwise require external hardware, such as test and ring relays. Integrated line testing and diagnostics reduce cost for service providers by enabling remote test capabilities that minimize the need for ``truck rolls'' to troubleshoot communications equipment.
The new Legerity chipsets provide a complete software-configurable solution for all transmission parameters, DC feed variables, metering and DTMF generation, and extensive loop supervision capability, including off-hook, ring-trip and ground-key detection. By implementing these system-level functions on chip, the Dual ISLAC/ISLIC chipsets provide one of the communication industry's most programmable and highest density solutions.
The introduction of these next-generation linecard chipsets reinforces Legerity's technology leadership in the global communications IC industry. ``Legerity's successful track record in communications began in 1979 when, as part of AMD, we pioneered DSP-based linecard ICs,'' added White. ``Over the years, we've sold more than 100 million embedded DSP devices, as well as 120 million SLICs, for the communications industry. These devices range from application-specific SLICs and nonprogrammable SLAC solutions to highly integrated, programmable chipset solutions.''
Pricing and Availability
The Am79D2250 and Am79D2251 Dual ISLAC devices are available in PLCC and TQFP packages. Legerity is now sampling the Am79D2250 and Am79D2251 devices, with volume production planned for the fourth quarter of 2000. The Am79R240 and Am79R241 ISLIC devices are available in a PLCC package and are now in production. Per line pricing (1/2 Dual ISLAC and 1 ISLIC) starts at $5.45 in 10K-unit quantities.
