E-Mr. Bill: That was an ignorant thing to say and you are living in the dark ages if you believe such nonsense. Union "thugs" are a thing of the past. Corporate "thugs," however, are still very much alive and well. (Ask the rank and file at IBM if there are any pension-grabbing corporate thugs.) Union leaders today are, as a whole, highly educated besides being highly committed.

The working man and working woman are indeed highly concerned about quality. So much so, that the Ford Motor Co. not too long ago felt compelled to buy advertising to publicize its "Quality First" union workers. More companies are realizing that a strong union workforce is an asset, not a liability.

To insinuate that there's a union connection with the faulty tire scandal is so stupid it's almost beyond comment.

I've worked in both union and non-union workplaces. I've seen both sides. I suspect all you know about unions is what you've read in the papers.
