I'm not going to sit here and defend what happened in the past. Have there been corrupt unions? Of course. But perhaps I can persuade you that unions today are different than unions of 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago. Obviously, there was a time in the history of the United States when the pendulum had swung too much in the direction of unions. But that certainly isn't the case today. Something like 83% of the American workforce today is non-union. Today, I would argue, the pendulum has swung too much in the direction of business, and away from unions. That is why a whole new class of workers (including even doctors) is taking a fresh look at strength through unity.

If you have a family and a beef with management, the answer isn't always going out and getting another job.

There's a reason why labor is so solidly behind the Gore-Lieberman team this election. The reason is the issues. Take a hard look at some of the legislation that the GOP-controlled Congress has tried to push the past eight years to swing the pendulum even more toward big business and away from the working man and working woman.

That's why I'm voting for Gore-Lieberman on Nov. 7. It's going to be a long four years for the American working man and working woman if Bush gets elected.
