It seems to me that we already have natural gas going to every house.

So all you have to do is plug your reformer/PEM into the gas line and you have all the electricity you need for your house.

Your gas bill might go up a little but I bet it is insignificant compared to how much your house will save on electric bills.

Oh yeah, and no brownouts. Especially good if you are a business or have computers.

Incidentally, this is what GE/PLUG are in the process of doing. They were going to deliver house units to the market in January 01 but it got pushed back to Jan 02 the last I heard.

Anybody want to comment on GE/PLUG?

<< United Technologies, based in Hartford, Connecticut, said yesterday that it will demonstrate the world's first gasoline-powered fuel cell with the U.S. Department of Energy. >>

Global Thermoelectric GLE on the Toronto exchange has already demonstrated gasoline powered fuel cells, and is working with Delphi on a 42 Volt auxiliary power unit. globalte.com

I see fuel cell cars coming on more rapidly than people think, with the first ones using hydrocarbon fuels, evolving into hydrogen only FC cars in less than 10 years. I've heard that Honda has been showing their gas/electric hybrid on the Olympics, saying that their FC hybrid is coming soon. I see no reason to doubt them.
