Global oil consumption is about 73 M bbl/day and growing as global economic expansion continues; as a result of oil price crash a couple of years ago, excess capacity is lowest since before the first oil shock in the 70's - about 3 M bbl/day - half of the excess capacity is in Saudi Arabia. Longer term , the issue goes beyond OPEC - it is a question of conservation, additional exploration/production, and alternate forms of energy.
