The past two days has indeed seen an incredible change in press coverage. Another Washington Post article (can't find the reference now) talked about how the press is suddenly calling Gore on his false statement that his pooch's medicine cost's only 1/3 as much as the same medicine for his mother-in-law; and on his castigation of Hollywood, followed by receipt of $4.2 Million at Hollywood dinners last week.

Also, John Fund in the Wall Street Journal tells how 50% of Newsweek's poll that puts Gore up by 14% was conducted on a night when pollsters know more Democrats are at home. Also, 60% of people don't answer pollsters phone calls, and objective experts believe most of these non-respondents are conservatives. So the major polls are quite unscientific.

And: John Fund cites a few objective polls: the portraitofamerica.com Rasmussen poll, the Battleground Poll, and another -- all of which show the race to be incredibly close, with Bush having a 1-4% lead.

The goal of Newsweek et al. is to dishearten Bush supporters, trying to make them think "Why vote? Gore's going to win, it's over."

It's far from over. It actually appears that Bush is still leading and is in fact gaining.

Spread the word! No Bush supporter should stay at home based on what the big polls say. Newsweek had Clinton up by more than 23% in late October 1996. The final result: Clinton by 8%. So: Newsweek says Gore is up by 14%? Subtract the 15% Newsweek bias, and you have Bush ahead by 1%, right in line with Rasmussen and the other objective polls!
