Lufthansa CityLine is also considering options for an additional 10 CRJ700 aircraft. Deliveries of the CRJ700 to Lufthansa CityLine will begin in the first quarter of 2001. "The CRJ has become increasingly important to us, establishing new nonstop connections between less frequented German destinations and major European cities, and entering new markets," said Karl-Heinz Köpfle, managing director of Lufthansa CityLine. "Our CRJ700 regional jets will allow us to increase capacity, with a common aircraft on routes developed by our 50-seat CRJ aircraft." "We are proud that Lufthansa CityLine, the regional airline within the Lufthansa Group, with its reputation for technical and operational excellence, has demonstrated confidence in our 70-seat regional jet program by placing this follow-on order before delivery of its first CRJ700," said Steven A. Ridolfi, president of Bombardier Aerospace, Regional Aircraft. "Today's announcement brings total firm orders and options for the CRJ700 Series to 471. The CRJ family is enjoying remarkable success with orders and options for the 50-seat CRJ Series 100/200, 70-seat CRJ700 and 86-seat CRJ900 combined totaling 1,760 aircraft," added Mr. Ridolfi. Lufthansa CityLine placed its initial order for 10 CRJ700 Series aircraft plus 10 options in September, 1998. The transaction announced today represents the conversion of those options to firm orders. Lufthansa's wholly-owned subsidiary, Lufthansa CityLine, was the launch customer for the Canadair Regional Jet and became the first airline to operate the aircraft, in the fall of 1992. With today's announcement, Lufthansa has placed firm orders for 65 CRJ aircraft: 20 CRJ700 Series and 45 CRJ100* Series. Today, 38 CRJ aircraft connect nearly 50 European cities.
