A chunk of the SPR was recently swapped from lower API to higher API. Translation is that they want maximum gasoline from the SPR, as opposed to heating oil. Makes sense when you realize that in a war gasoline is far more important than heating oil.

I agree with you about keeping inventories minimal. If I were a distributor I would hold off buying. My action would help ensure the government had no choice but to release SPR crude, meaning I could buy at lower prices. If I'm wrong my customers suffer - big deal!

As I mentioned a few weeks ago I don't believe the government has a choice. They have to release SPR oil. The tanker situation will simply not allow adequate supplies to arrive in time. Question is, will the refinery situation allow the oil to be refined in time?

Personally I don't see the HO situation to be as big a problem as the NG situation. NG is also used by industry and also for power generation.
