A little note on the interstate highway system. It was started by President Eisenhower, the great and honorable Republican who beat the Nazi threat in Europe.

Ike had been impressed by the German autobahn system as a way to move men and supplies quickly. It was designed to help the military move quickly during times of war. Also one in every eight miles had to be straight and without overpasses so it could be used as emergency air bases. It also turned out to be an excellent way for civilian travel.
