Was looking mostly at shrimp catches not long after drilling first started in both areas the rigs provide a great deal of cover. The shrimp feed much farther up food chain.

I've fished the gulf & studied in in school.

While I have yet to locate the exact reference, my basic premise has here-in been proven that off shore oil production is not the environmental hazard claimed by many of the well meaning(by poorly informed) greenies.

note graph showing oil in the seas from offshore production(2%) less than that from transportation(45%) or even natural sources(8%). Thus it is of lesser environmental impact to get the petroleum from costal sources more near point of use than haul it from farther away.
