Retevision plans to extend this deployment to Valencia and Zaragoza next month. The Alcatel LMDS solution will enable Retevision to cost-effectively deliver high speed Internet, ISDN and leased line services to small and medium-sized businesses using a high frequency broadband wireless system operating in the 26 GHz spectrum. "Retevision is able to rapidly and cost-effectively expand its nationwide network using Alcatel's fully integrated end-to-end solution," said Nicola Iannacone, network director of Retevision. "Alcatel is proud to support Retevision in the expansion of its network," said Jean-David Calvet, executive vice president, Fixed Wireless, Alcatel. "Alcatel is the clear leader in broadband access. According to a recent report by Dell'Oro we now own 54.2% of the ADSL market. Add to that the fact that we have more than 100 customers worldwide for our LMDS solution and more than 3000 base station sectors installed, it is clear that Alcatel is the vendor of choice in this market space." The comprehensive Alcatel LMDS solution is a multiservice broadband wireless network comprised of base station and customer premises equipment, as well as network and service management. A base station, consisting of digital modulation equipment with optional switching capabilities and point-to-multipoint transmitters and receivers, is the central location that collects all traffic to and from customers within a given wireless coverage area. It is also the linking point between the customer and the network backbone. Customer premises equipment includes radio termination transceivers and network termination units, which support a full range of services. The network and service management suite supports complete end to end management of both the wireless and wireline portions of the Retevision network, providing a full range of billing, statistics and maintenance support.
