I have no problems criticising Richardson for jawboning oil prices either. Nor do I agree with Clinton trying to go into the market to buy oil for the strategic reserves in order to boost the price of oil. It is equally misguided to try to prop up oil prices in order to benefit domestic oil companies and drillers. Our goal should always be to break OPEC and Big Oil--not coddle them or cheerlead for them. Cheney, however, is a bird of a different feather. He not only kowtowed to OPEC, he openly encouraged it for the sake of his company profits and his precious stock options. That's unconcionable for someone who presumes to be qualified to serve the public interest.
