On this board, if you are for choice, you are a liberal, even if, as you say, you support other conservative issues. As far as school vouchers? I think that they are wrong. I think that our leaders should demand that the public school system be fixed. It is terrible. A lot of teachers, and principals, can barely read or write, never mind do math. How the hell did they get their jobs!? To me, school vouchers are a plot to get more kids into religious schools, so they can be indoctrinated in dogma. OTOH, if I had a kid in public school right now, I sure would love to get my hands on a voucher to get him out of it! <g> << How can people like Bush who claim to espouse compassion also be in the camp with the racists, anti-abortionists, anti-evolution, prayer-in-school whackos, who will turn this country backwards 20 years? >> It's scary. OTOH, I am heartened by what happened in Fort Lauderdale. The commission is voting to deny funding to the Boy Scouts, because they have segregation policies against gays. It tells me that the majority of people are more open minded than the current batch of Republicans, at least in Ft Lauderdale, realize that being gay is not by choice, it's by birthright. In this last local election, only about 15% of the people voted. I'm hoping that there is a good turnout for this upcoming election, so that the majority of good Americans can have their voices heard. I would hate to see the compassionate conservatives be in power to spread their brand of hatred and intolerance.
