How? Mindshare! --- Remember how Keith from MS was saying how critical "mindshare" is? Well, "Linux" mindshare and "Solaris" mindshare are the same thing. They're both the same flavor of Unix. Linux is like, Unix Jr. --- It's not as scalable or robust as the big boy Sparc/Solaris but it runs on commodity hardware and it's better than NT (in networked environments). If you were a Linux administrator, you would *aspire to become a Sun Certified Solaris engineer and earn +50% more $. --- Dispite all the hype, 'Linux' is one of the weakest brands in the history of computing. 'Sun' is one of the strongest. Because they never swallowed the Wintel line, Sun is synonymous with 'Unix'. Sun's competitors like IBM are forced by that circumstance to become 'Linux' boosters. In the course of doing that, they feed the #1 big boy enterprise mindshare owning 'open standards' SUN. Linux, is in a lot of ways, Sun's farm team. -JCJ
