Did you follow the FON-WCOM non-merger? WCOM told justice they would unload all of FON except the wireless part. FON has nothing close to a monopoly in that area, and WCOM has nothing at all. But Justice and the Europeans still blocked it, for two reasons. First, they totally misunderstand how the market is changing. They displayed an amazing ignorance of the technologies involved. Second, they are responding to political pressure. The intensity of antitrust enforcement goes in and out of fashion, in waves, and it is now very much "in". In the current environment, I don't think any large merger is a sure thing.
