The talk of taping the SPR may have already led to something. REmember, plan is :

Gov't releases oil to oil co now.

Oil Co replaces the draw mid year next year which contracts are available at lower prices.

Well guess what, those mid year 2001 contracts have started up already so maybe the recipients of the SPR oil are already buying in the replacement oil before drawing down the SPR. That would be smart.

As soon as they draw down SPR oil, prices for mid year 2001 will rise since all this does is transfer demand from now til mid year 2001. Better hope that come mid year 2001 some demand has evaporated otherwise this added demand on top of the inherent summer driving demand will cause some big spikes mid year 2001.
