The randomness of the universe is not spectrally flat. My model of this is memory. Outcomes are not blindly random 50/50 rattlings of pachinko machines. There is a wearing of a groove. A path taken reinforces that path and with some elementary math, you can demonstrate that a 1/f factor arises naturally from that processes have memory. So it's like you have a set of dice that by their use tend to flatten and lose their 1:1:1:1:1:1 ratio. Maybe it is only 0.9999999:1:1:1:1:1.0000001 now. The outcome is slanted. I'm almost certain that memory is intrinsicly related to consciousness. The better your memory, on average, the "smarter" you are. So we have arisen into a crucible that has memory. Is the memory constrained to Earth? Are we the result of panspermia? I've always thought so - cosmic tumbleweeds. Memory of meteor impacts, memory of ice ages, and all of these slant the table for the next round of games. This feedback is apparent to anyone who looks on this planet. If you scale the temperature scale of the universe going back to the 1st instant of the BB, it comprises something like 18 orders of magnitude Kelvin. The median is probably 9 orders of magnitude. Yet, here on ol' planet Earth, there is a phase lock and even in our most extreme swings, maybe we are within about 1.5 orders of magnitude. That is tight control. But what controls it? Well THAT depends on when you looked. Life seems to be at the helm, but that is self-referential. SO, what is LIFE? It is the application of memory. The application of memory is consciousness. QED.
