Speaking of ARM Chip designer ARC doubles on debut ARM rival sets IPO price at top of range, then jumps 100% By Bernard Hickey, FTMarketWatch 7:06:00 PM BST Sep 21, 2000 LONDON (FTMW) – Shares in British microprocessor designer ARC International [UK:ARK] more than doubled on its debut on Thursday after it set its IPO price at the top end of the indicated range. This outperformed expectations in the grey market for a first day premium of about 60 percent. Analysts and fund managers said before the debut that demand had been strong for the issue and it had been “massively oversubscribed.” ARC set the IPO price at 210 pence, which was at the top of the indicative range of 170-210 pence. This valued the group at 545.9 million pounds (909.5 million euros) and raised net proceeds of 103.3 million pounds. ARC shares opened at 410 pence and then jumped to an intra-day high of 475 pence. They closed at 428 pence, representing a premium to the offer price on the first day of 104 percent. snip-- snip -- The next ARM? The ARC float was being closely watched by many investors who have seen the share price of its rival chip designer, ARM Holdings [UK:ARM], jump from less than 200 pence to more than 1,000 pence in the last year.
