They could always return to the Caymen Islands to sell convertible junk bonds. I have been trying to figure out why they went to the Caymens in the first place since at that time, raising capital in the uS was very easy. Of course, their intent was to only raise $500 million but the demand was so high they raised $1.2 billion.

I could speculate forever on this but this leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. How many ethical firms do you know of raise all their capital off shore that are US based? Specifically, the Cayman Islands. There is a reputation for money laundering in the Caymens. It is possible that may be what accounted for the huge demand for junk bonds paying a whopping 4 3/4%.
